A new flat roof needs more than a waterproof top layer. Deck condition, falls, insulation requirements, perimeter details and drainage must work together. We assess the building and explain suitable coverings for the roof, including torch-on bituminous felt and other compatible systems where appropriate.
New flat roofs for slate and tiled roofs
Torch-on felt is installed in layers with carefully formed laps and details. Single-ply membranes provide a lightweight sheet system with welded or bonded seams, while GRP creates a glass-reinforced finish formed over a prepared deck. Each system has different substrate and weather requirements, so selection follows the roof design and manufacturer guidance.
What the work involves
We pay particular attention to roof edges, parapets, abutments, outlets, pipe penetrations and transitions to pitched roofs. Correct falls and clear drainage paths help reduce standing water. The finished specification should suit the property, its exposure and the intended use of the roof.
Every roof is assessed on its own condition, structure, access and exposure. Before we start, we explain the likely cause or proposed specification, the work involved and any limitations we can see. If a roof needs a wider repair than first expected, we discuss it with you before proceeding.
Roofing materials and details
Natural & fibre-cement slate
Slate roofs need correctly sized slates, sound fixings and careful detailing around ridges, valleys and abutments. Repair and renewal methods are chosen to suit the existing roof.
Clay & concrete tiles
Profile, pitch and interlock all affect the repair. We check for cracked or displaced tiles, failing ridge details and junctions that may admit wind-driven rain.
Flat roof systems
Felt, GRP and single-ply coverings each use different detailing and repair materials. We identify the system first and discuss a compatible solution.
